In the sunny Happy Village, Old Zhang has an old but treasured tricycle. This tricycle usually takes Old Zhang around the streets to sell the fresh fruits and vegetables he grows. It is a great helper in Old Zhang’s life. However, recently, there is something wrong with the leaf spring of the tricycle. Every time he goes on the road, it bumps severely, just like dancing a crazy disco.
Old Zhang decides to go to the repair shop to replace a new set of leaf springs for the tricycle. The repairman takes out a set of seemingly very strong leaf springs and pats his chest to guarantee, “Old Zhang, with this set installed, your vehicle will run as steadily as an old ox pulling a cart!” Old Zhang looks at the leaf springs suspiciously but still decides to give it a try.
As soon as the new leaf springs are installed, Old Zhang can’t wait to drive to the market. But not long after leaving the repair shop, he feels something is wrong. The elasticity of these new leaf springs seems to be too “lively”. Usually, when passing through a small pothole, the vehicle just trembles slightly. Now, as long as the road surface is a little uneven, the vehicle jumps up suddenly like a pogo stick. Old Zhang is tossed around in the driver’s seat, holding the handlebars tightly with both hands and shouting, “What’s going on! Did I buy a jumping car?”
Finally, Old Zhang manages to get used to this strange bumpy rhythm and continues to drive forward carefully. When passing by the square in the village, a group of children are playing. They see Old Zhang’s tricycle bouncing around like crazy and find it extremely interesting. They chase after the vehicle, shouting as they run, “Grandpa Zhang, your vehicle is dancing!” Old Zhang doesn’t know whether to laugh or cry. He wants to speed up to get rid of these children, but the vehicle bounces faster and faster, and he can’t control the speed at all.
When he reaches the only way to the market, a dilapidated dirt road full of large potholes. Old Zhang secretly groans in his heart. He tries to drive through it slowly, but as soon as the vehicle hits those large potholes, it flies up like an out – of – control rocket. Once, the vehicle bounces so high that it almost hits a big tree on the side of the road. Old Zhang is so scared that his face turns pale, thinking, “This is the end. I’m afraid I’m going to die here today!” The villagers passing by see this thrilling scene and stop one after another, opening their mouths wide. Someone shouts, “Old Zhang, are you performing acrobatics? It’s too dangerous!”
Finally, after getting through this dirt road, Old Zhang is exhausted. His hat has been knocked off at some point, and his hair is as messy as a bird’s nest. He parks the vehicle on the side of the road, looks at this set of leaf springs, which are the “culprits”, and sighs helplessly, “I thought I had found a treasure, but it turned out to be a ‘little devil’!”
Old Zhang has no choice but to drive the vehicle back to the repair shop. The repairman sees Old Zhang’s embarrassed appearance and can’t help laughing, “Haha, Old Zhang, it seems that this set of leaf springs is not very suitable for your vehicle. Let me change it to an ordinary one for you.” Old Zhang nods repeatedly, “Hurry up. I don’t want to ride this ‘crazy roller – coaster’ anymore!”
After replacing it with an ordinary leaf spring, Old Zhang sets off again. The vehicle runs as smoothly as if it is gliding on the ground. A relieved smile finally appears on his face. This experience also becomes a topic of conversation among the villagers of Happy Village during their spare time. Every time people see Old Zhang, they will tease him about that “crazy tricycle journey”.
